My Savills Internship Experience

Background

As students of Property Economics at Technological University Dublin, where I am now entering my final year, my peers and I were offered the opportunity in our third year to complete an internship in some of Ireland's leading property agencies. Since I began my studies, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in property, and so was more than delighted when Savills Ireland accepted me into their intern programme.

I have gained so much knowledge as to what the property industry involves, the different areas you can work in, and what to expect after college when I enter the industry full time.

My internship in the Office Agency team commenced at the end of January and was due to last until the beginning of May, although I was honoured when my team asked me to stay on for the summer. I have gained so much knowledge as to what the property industry involves, the different areas you can work in, and what to expect after college when I enter the industry full time.

Savills Offices department looks after the acquiring, selling and letting of office developments across Ireland. Offices at Savills provide landlord representation, tenant representation and serviced offices services. While I have worked with all my team members in all aspects, my focus throughout my internship has been landlord representation and on this, I have been working closely alongside Conor Egan, Anna Potterton and Kate Healy. It has been great to be involved in several projects, such as presenting at our Monday Morning Meeting Office's presentation to the firm, completing lease summaries, working on heads of terms alonside my directors and carrying out inspections and measuring in our blocks at Dublin Airport Central.

Typical day

Something I have loved since joining Offices is the variety I get in my day to day. I could be out at a viewing, conducting a measurement, or standing in the tallest office block in Dublin The Exo, depending on the day, something which I have really enjoyed. Naturally, there have been challenges for me as there would be with starting anything new. Offices involves a lot of communication with people and picking up the phone, something I had to adapt quickly to. However, my team has always given me a helping hand when needs be, and I have learned so much from them since joining.

Since joining Savills, I've really appreciated the emphasis on socialising with colleagues that the company has - events such as internal 'TGI Thursday' evenings and networking lunches have been great to get to know my peers, and we've had lots of fun marking days such as Pancake Tuesday and Easter with brunches and gifts. Working in Offices was also a great way to get to know the other agents in my industry at office launches and viewings. I have progressed a lot since joining Savills in my professionalism, communication and my knowledge of the industry. I'm finishing up my internship grateful for this opportunity from both Savills and Technological University Dublin, and looking forward to my future in property!
