Six of the best gardens for a Guernsey Easter egg hunt

If you’re spending Easter with family this year then you may well be planning to keep the younger generation entertained with a chocolate egg hunt.

The origins of this tradition are believed to date back to 16th century Germany when Protestant reformer Martin Luther organised egg hunts for his congregation.

Linked to the Easter Bunny (or Easter Hare as it was then known) the custom gradually spread further afield – with the future Queen Victoria enjoying egg hunts at Kensington Palace organised by her mother, the German-born Duchess of Kent.

Although artificial eggs began to appear in London in the 1850s it wasn’t until the late 19th and early 20th centuries that they increased in popularity when family life became more of a priority for the expanding middle classes with more disposable income.

In recent times, confectionary companies have instigated their own elaborate versions of the oval shaped hide and seek for the enjoyment of children and adults alike.

However, all you really need is a good-sized garden, some decent weather and a generous supply of eggs. Featured below is our choice of Guernsey properties currently on the market with great outdoor space that we think would be perfect.
