Savills Ski works with an extensive network of top agents and operators across the Alps as well as those in competitive ski and snowboarding. Here, Vicky Gosling OBE, CEO of GB Snowsport, reveals her vision for the next 10 years and where she would take her own family skiing.
Q. What is GB Snowsport?
GB Snowsport is the national governing body for snowsports in the UK, managing elite British teams and the development pathway for those athletes. We select, manage and lead British teams to international events, promote participation in FIS and World Para snowsports disciplines and provide opportunities for our athletes to achieve their full potential as individuals and as a team.
Q. What is your vision for the next 10 years?
GB Snowsport’s vision is to be a top five nation in Olympic and Paralympic snowsports and to be podium competitive in all Olympic disciplines by 2030.
Q. What chance do the British teams have at the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022?
We now have more athletes competing and making podiums in more snowsport disciplines than ever before and Beijing offers a great opportunity to showcase this talent.
Q. You used to be a Group Captain in the RAF. What were your defining moments?
There were many defining moments throughout my 21 years of service. I would say my deployment to the Gulf in 2003 was the first time I fully understood the realities of war. My secondment to become the Military Project Lead for the Invictus Games 2014 prior to becoming the CEO Invictus Games 2016 was also a key defining moment.
Q. Where would you take your family on a skiing holiday?
Given the vast number of choices available, that's always a difficult decision to make, although one of my favourite family locations is definitely Verbier.
Q. What was the last sport-related book you read?
Legacy by James Kerr. Taking one the world's top sporting teams, the All Blacks, as an example, it shows the importance of the collective mentality needed to succeed at the highest level and how the development of a culture is deep rooted in long-term success. Regardless of your interest in sport, or in rugby, this is a book worth reading.
