6 of the best...Properties for Munro-baggers

Glenmarkie Lodge, Blairgowrie, Perthshire

Scotland’s dramatic hills and glens attract visitors from all over the world, including a growing number intent on tackling some of its most imposing mountains, known as Munros.

A mountain must be over 3,000ft high to qualify as a Munro and there are 282 of them across the country, from Ben Lomond on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond to Ben Hope in Sutherland. The original list was compiled by Sir Hugh Munro in the Scottish Mountaineering Club Journal in 1891, and the Reverend A E Robertson was first to complete the full round of Munros in 1901.

The pursuit of ‘Munro-bagging’ has since gained popularity among walkers and mountaineers worldwide. It is not for the unprepared or the faint-hearted and requires walking experience, navigation skills and common sense. Researching weather conditions, safety advice and routes via Mountaineering Scotland and Walkhighlands is highly recommended.

Some Munros are much better suited to beginners than others but even tackling the foothills opens up the opportunity to fall in love with Scotland’s outstanding and dramatic landscape.

The following properties are ideal for those seeking to conquer the country's beautiful Munros, or for anyone who simply craves the peace and tranquillity of living among them. All offer exceptional views year round and are just a short drive from a Munro.
