All the world might be a stage, but when it comes to beautiful backdrops, there's nowhere like Italy. Shakespeare set nearly a third of his works there, including Julius Caesar and Titus Andronicus in Rome, The Merchant of Venice in the eponymous city, Romeo and Juliet in Verona and The Winter’s Tale in Sicily. Curiously, there is no evidence that The Bard ever went to Italy. In fact, he probably never even left England.
