Property must-haves for 2016

Winnington Road, N2

Forget private gyms, indoor pools and media rooms: today's buyers covet two master suites and a car turntable – at the very least. Here are the six luxury must-haves that top the wishlist:

Designer names

Some designer names carry the same prestige as a desirable address, be it an architect, interior designer or brand of kitchen. They speak of exceptional quality and unrivalled standards.

Wine cellars

There’s a burgeoning demand for these and developers are responding accordingly. But they're not just for storage – they can also be spectacular spaces for socialising and entertaining.

Second master suites

Many new larger houses are offering second master bedroom suites to suit modern lifestyles. They go by various names within the property industry: officially ‘the second master bedroom suite’, they are often dubbed ‘the quiet room’ or ‘the snoring room’. My favourite is ‘the argument suite’.

Treatment rooms

Hair salons and treatment rooms are becoming increasingly sought after by high net worth buyers as the desire to have all life’s luxuries under one roof continues to grow.

Super garages

The space and technology both developers and home owners dedicate to cars is significant. Recently, we’ve seen everything from heated driveways, temperature-controlled garages and purpose-built car dens to padded garages, hydraulic car lifts and car turntables.

Lifts

Having to climb endless flights of stairs is largely considered unacceptable, especially by buyers more used to lateral living. For classic London properties with more than three levels, lifts are an increasing requirement.
