The Nadder Valley: Wiltshire's answer to the Cotswolds

Garden, Crantlefield House, Tisbury

The Nadder Valley, which runs westwards through beautiful open downland from Wilton to Shaftesbury, is becoming increasingly popular with buyers in their thirties and forties moving out of London, as well as growing families looking for more space.

In fact, it's fast becoming as fashionable as The Cotswolds and it's easy to see why. The area offers a wonderful selection of picturesque villages, the largest of which is Tisbury. Though much of its appeal lies in its rural charm and glorious surroundings, Tisbury is becoming increasingly cosmopolitan. In recent years we have seen the importation of gastro pubs, a deli and coffee shop. A more traditional attraction is the hugely popular Beckford Arms, while the Pythouse Kitchen, just west of Tisbury, is Wiltshire’s answer to Daylesford in Kingham. Another great addition to the area is the recently opened Royal Oak in Swallowcliffe, a superb boutique gastro pub with rooms.

Other popular villages in the Nadder Valley include Chilmark, East Knoyle, the birthplace of Sir Christopher Wren, Ansty, the Donheads and Swallowcliffe.

You'll pay a premium to live in Tisbury, which has a direct train service to Waterloo that takes just under two hours, but the surrounding countryside still offers tremendous value.
