Why you'll pay more for a Suffolk sea view

From the simple pleasures of crabbing at Walberswick to a sophisticated sail along the Suffolk coast, the call of the sea is hard to resist. But it comes at a price. According to Savills research, homes within 100 meters of the sea cost an average of 12.4 per cent more than those up to 1 km away.

As the table below reveals, the highest coastal premiums occur in Merseyside, Northumberland and North Yorkshire. But Suffolk is not far behind, with seafront properties commanding an average of 39.1 per cent more than those within 1 km.

Since the beginning of 2014 more than half of those buying prime property in the Suffolk Coastal district have been from London. As confidence returns to the second home market in line with the wider economy, a younger generation of second home owners is also emerging, keen to take advantage of the lifestyle on offer here and those simple seaside pleasures.
