One of the most significant regeneration projects in London, Wembley Park, is transforming the landscape around the iconic Wembley Stadium to create a thriving neighbourhood, with excellent transport links to Central London.

New public spaces, shopping and leisure amenities have already opened, along with the four-star Hilton Hotel, and the state-of-the-art Brent Civic Centre, named the greenest public building in the UK. Here are five more things you might not know about Wembley Park.

1. Transport

Wembley Park is a short Tube journey from the West End. It's just 18 minutes from Wembley Park Underground Station to Bond Street and 12 minutes from Wembley Park to Baker Street.

2. Shopping

The area is home to London Designer Outlet, offering more than 70 shops such as Gap, LK Bennett and Nike, restaurants and coffee shops, a nine-screen cinema and a play park. London Designer Outlet is the capital's only outlet shopping centre, with all stores offering up to 70 per cent off retail prices.

3. The Stadium

Wembley Stadium is Europe’s second largest stadium, with 90,000 seats (Barcelona’s Camp Nou is the largest). The stadium's signature feature is its lattice arch, erected 22 degrees off true and the world’s longest unsupported roof structure.

The original Wembley Stadium hosted the 1948 Olympic Games and also the final of EURO '96 but, from an English perspective, its finest hour came on 30th July 1966, when Geoff Hurst scored a hat-trick to inspire England to a 4-2 extra-time win against West Germany in the final of the FIFA World Cup. Since then, the old Stadium was demolished in 2003 and rebuilt in 2007, ready to host the 2012 Olympic Games.

4. Entertainment

Wembley Stadium has hosted many of the world's best-known performers over the years. George Michael was the first to perform in the newly built stadium in 2007. Madonna played to a sold-out audience of 74,000 in 2008, and Take That played a record-breaking eight nights in 2011. Wembley Arena has been an iconic music venue for 80 years, and most recently held the X-Factor finals.

5. Events

Wembley Park covers 85 acres in total, hosting an array of family-friendly events throughout the year. 2014's Holi One festival saw 24,000 litres of coloured powder thrown as part of London's musical celebrations, while 102,311,600 steps were taken during the Run to the Beat 10K event.
