The West Burton project, with a capacity of 480 MW, is expected to generate enough energy to power approximately 144,000 homes, replacing around 24% of the capacity of the coal-powered West Burton Power Station. As a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project, it has been undergoing six-stage examination process by the planning inspectorate for the past three years. It has now been granted development consent by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.
Edward King, Associate, Savills Earth’s Energy, Infrastructure and Renewables team, says, “We are pleased to have facilitated the successful progression of these important projects through the site finding process and securing the land. This is not only a huge win for our client, but also the Savills landowner clients we brought together for this project, who will now benefit from the rental income over the lifetime of the scheme. This achievement plays a key role in advancing the UK’s clean energy transition.”
David Grindley, Director, Savills Earth’s Energy, Infrastructure and Renewables team, adds, “This positive outcome reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering results for clients like Island Green Power, and advance several other similar projects. With the UK government prioritising clean power by 2030, we are pleased to play a key role in driving forward renewable energy projects that will shape a greener future.”
