Living in a global city: a pick of the finest homes in London

Having enjoyed a burst of spring sunshine and a glimpse of how glorious London reflects itself under clear blue skies, I am reminded just how much our global city has to offer.

True it comes with a capital price tag, but values in the prime central London property market remain 20% below their peak of 2014 – and better still if you adjust for inflation and buy in dollars, this looks more like a 40% discount.

Cities tend to fall in and out of fashion. In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, all eyes were on Frankfurt. Today the focus is on Milan. Throughout, London has proved resilient, enriched by its culture, heritage, history and diversity; a beacon for tourists and visitors who then aspire to live and own a home in this great world city.

It’s for this reason we have recently enjoyed world-class new hotel openings by 5-star brands such as Raffles, The Peninsula, Four Seasons and, in the near future, Six Senses at The Whiteley and The Chancery Rosewood, Grosvenor Square. These are world-renowned hoteliers believing and investing in London.

Of course there are those immediately post Covid who joined in the ‘race for space’ and may have temporarily left London, but remember London has an incredible number of parks, a great river, and quirky urban walks. It’s an old city, difficult to navigate in a straight line unlike say New York, but our history, which does throw up challenges, is also is its great appeal.

Yes we need to build more homes – and homes that are more affordable – but to enable this we need investment, and international investment too.

It’s 25 years since Cool Britannia which had London’s signature all over it. As we go into the second quarter of the 21st century and London’s third millennium I say let’s celebrate this fantastic city and those who choose to visit, live and work here.

And in that spirit, take a look at our pick of the finest London homes currently on the market:
