The popular detective series ran from 1981 until 1991 and has now undergone a modern makeover, with Damien Molony stepping into the shoes – and iconic Triumph Roadster – of John Nettles’ title character.
Along with the captivating plot twists one of the show’s biggest attractions was arguably its picturesque location.
Bergerac put Jersey firmly on the map, attracting up to 15 million viewers at its peak that resulted in a spike in visitors to the island, including those who wanted to move permanently to these shores
The drama showcased the unique charm and beauty of the island and drew inspiration from local culture and heritage for much of its storytelling – with the likes of St Helier, Noirmont Point, St Brelade’s Bay and Mont Orgueil Castle in Gorey Harbour (to name just a few) all featuring.
The current re-imagining – now airing on UKTV’s U&DRAMA – is an opportunity to celebrate Bergerac’s legacy in Jersey, but also to reach a new generation as yet unaware of the island’s enduring appeal.
