Finding your zen: the increasing focus on wellness in new developments

The start of every year is typically the time when many of us renew our fitness goals, with the intention of prioritising our physical and mental wellbeing.

Given the desire to achieve a balanced lifestyle between work, rest and play, it comes as little surprise that wellness amenities within residential developments have become such an important consideration for buyers deciding where they want to live.

Developers are continuously looking to evolve their offering and stay ahead of their competitors, with the provision of the latest leisure and wellness facilities becoming an ever-increasing focus in a bid to stand out.

Alongside trends such as wearable technology there’s a growing emphasis on environmental wellness - a result of the pandemic - both within the home and its surrounding environment. Proximity to green spaces remains a top priority among buyers. But the design of the property itself is key too, with a wealth of natural light considered essential for mental health and vitality and, in some cases, a non-negotiable for buyers.

In city centre locations, where proximity to green spaces is at a premium, developers are having to think even more creatively in the pursuit of wellness. Whilst London developments have often set the standard for the types of amenities residents can benefit from, the likes of Birmingham and Manchester, along with other major UK cities, have started to see schemes placing an increased focus on wellness through thoughtfully designed spaces aimed at providing residents with a home that balances busy city life and a sense of calm.

One major scheme of note is Setl, located in a prime position within Birmingham’s trendy urban village, The Jewellery Quarter, where residents have access to an onsite wellness studio, a co-working lounge and a landscaped rooftop garden offering panoramic views of the city skyline.

This individualised approach to wellness continues to gain traction, with developers more and more attuned to residents’ needs. And in inner city locations, buyers are even more determined to find a space where they can work, collaborate, connect and rest – all in the name of finding their zen.
