Why homes on the Wentworth Estate score so highly with buyers

Master builder W G Tarrant acquired the development rights for the Wentworth Estate in 1922. His vision was to create an exclusive estate with covenants that ensured that, though it would be preserved as such, it would have a broader range of size and price than at St George’s Hill in Weybridge, created by Tarrant in 1910.

Wentworth Estate is now firmly established as one of Europe’s most prestigious residential areas with homes ranging from the ornate multi-chimney Arts and Crafts style through to Neo-Classical and colonial revival properties.

Tarrant engaged renowned golf architect Harry S Colt to develop Wentworth's No 1 course, now the East Course; he then converted the original Wentworth country house into the Clubhouse and additional golf courses were later added, including Colt’s championship No 2 course, now the West Course.

In 1926 Wentworth Club was the site of the informal challenge match between Britain and America, witnessed by Samuel Ryder, which encouraged him to set up the gold cup and biennial competition now known as the Ryder Cup.

During its history the Wentworth Club championship course has been updated by golfing greats such as Ernie Els and currently hosts the annual BMW PGA Championship, one of the premier events on the European circuit which takes place from 19-22 September.
